To finish off my journey towards a degree in Design, I decided that my last job
would be to illustrate a children's book, something I always wanted to do.

The theme of the narrative came naturally to me: longing, or "saudade" in Portuguese.

Living outside your country of origin, whether by choice or not, brings up many feelings,
and we often only find comfort in memories.

The book has no words, beside the text on the first page, the narrative is supported 100% in illustrations.

The only colors used are shades of Blue and Yellow, which reflect the emotions of the character.

When she is sad and longing the main color is blue, and in the end, it is yellow because it is happy, full of love after dreaming of her most cherished memories.

The choice of colors was also inspired by Portuguese expression “Ouro sobre Azul” which means gold on blue.

This is Marina, the main character.
She is Brazilian but lives in Portugal.
